Concept2 Supports the Virtual Head Of The Charles® Regatta
Fall is in the air, which means it’s usually the time our Vermont crew starts packing up to travel to Boston, Massachusetts, for the annual Head Of The Charles® Regatta. This year, we’ll be cheering on the athletes and racing from home with the regatta’s multi-component event that includes on water racing opportunities, indoor rowing for all, and a competitive live broadcast indoor rowing race.
As the official RowErg of the Head Of The Charles® Regatta, Concept2 is excited that this event is now available, globally, to all athletes—even if they’ve never touched an oar! The regatta is usually oversubscribed, with athletes and teams entering a lottery for selection if they have not qualified in previous years. This year, anyone can participate, whether it’s from their living rooms, home gyms or boathouses.
The traditional regatta is normally filled with excitement and activity along the Charles River. It often serves as a homecoming for athletes to connect with old friends and finish the fall racing season strong. For Concept2, we’ve been a fixture on the race course from the earliest races (at last estimate, over 40 years!) providing equipment rentals, oar service and repair to athletes, and product information in our marketing tents.
This year, we’ll miss connecting with athletes, coaches, families and friends. The virtual event, however, still allows us to unite, as we find new ways to share information on our products and service oars and sculls. Even if our famous giveaways from Vermont—lip balm, Cabot cheddar cheese, and Champlain Orchards apples—are not found in our usual spot along the river, we’re still here, finding new ways to share our love of rowing. (Stay tuned to social media for opportunities to win prizes!)
Following all local COVID guidelines for racing, individuals and teams are able to submit their results online from October 9 to October 18. Registration is now open.
Concept2 believes in the power of sport to create opportunities, and is excited that all proceeds from the event will be donated to Head Of The Charles® Regatta’s new fund with the Gold Cup Regatta of Philadelphia. This program will make annual grants to rowing programs that serve under-resourced communities within the United States. More information and links to registration can be found at The Head Of The Charles® website.
