Employee Profile: Brett Maxwell
Dories, dinghies, sailboats—these were the vessels of Brett Maxwell’s youth, growing up in Woods Hole, Massachusetts, on Cape Cod. It wasn’t until he moved north to Vermont and came to Concept2 when he added rowing sculls to the list.
While he doesn’t get into a scull on a regular basis, Brett nonetheless interacts with all the various pieces and parts of our rowing oars, and helps keep our customers in their boats every day. Since 2010, Brett has been on the Purchasing team and is responsible for helping coordinate the procurement of the various materials that go into making Concept2 oars, sculls and fitness equipment. This is no small task, as there are countless “surprises” that can interfere with the supply chain, but Brett and the team make it all work, so that there is never a reason to hold up production or delay a customer order from going out the door on time.
Brett says that the best thing about being on the Purchasing team is that it can cut across every other department in the company. “On any given day I might be working on quality improvements and product development with Engineering and Marketing, getting delivery or product information to answer a question for Customer Service, or investigating an invoice question with the Inventory and Accounting teams. It’s enjoyable and interesting to see how a business operates from many perspectives.”
It would seem that Brett doesn’t sit still very much. In his free time he travels all over the US visiting family and friends, or discovering a new place or new favorite beach. He keeps a ranking of his top beaches—the current number one is Seven Mile Beach in Negril, Jamaica (for its atmosphere and calm water!). At home he’s the consummate putterer working on household projects, which he really enjoys.
Brett lives in Waterbury, Vermont, with his wife Jessica. He has two sons, Seamus, a sophomore engineering student at Northeastern University, and Teague, a sixth-grader in Woods Hole, Massachusetts.
