One Machine. Two Height Options.

In May 2021, we streamlined our product line. We now offer two height options for our popular RowErg®: a standard 14” seat height (the new name for the Model D) and an elevated 20” seat height (replacing the Model E, which has been discontinued).

How is the RowErg different from the Model D and Model E Indoor Rowers?

The Model D and Model E were functionally the same, but had some differences in construction and aesthetics that made them two distinctly different machines. Both have been replaced with the RowErg. Here's what's new:

1. The Name: The RowErg is the same machine as the popular, time-tested Model D, but with the new RowErg name.
2. Leg Height Option: You now have a choice of leg height—choose between standard legs that give the RowErg a 14" seat height or tall legs that give a 20" seat height.

As part of the streamlining process, all the features of the RowErg, except for leg height and larger caster wheels on the tall legs, are the same. One machine: your choice of standard or tall legs.

Regardless of which RowErg leg height option you choose, both feature:

• An adjustable monitor arm for easy viewing and compact storage
• A 2-year and 5-year warranty, included
• Commercial-grade durability
• A compact footprint
• An excellent rowing experience and workout quality
• Identical weight capacities for users

Why did we change to the RowErg?

As a company of engineers, we value clean, efficient design. Since introducing the Model D in 2003, we have gathered ideas for improvements (as we do with all our products). When the pandemic hit, it brought some issues to the forefront, especially in the areas of production and component supply chain; we were unable to ramp up production when people really wanted and needed our products.

The change is the result of an accumulation of observations and improvements over time and has allowed us to use equivalent (or the same!) parts on the RowErg. This compatibility of parts, and the production efficiencies gained, enable us to keep our prices low. And you can rest assured that we will continue to support all models of our RowErgs, regardless of vintage, with spare parts and exceptional customer service.

Why might the RowErg with tall legs be right for you?

The RowErg with tall legs offers a 20” seat height—similar to a standard chair height. Some people prefer the additional height because:

• They prefer the appearance of a taller machine.
• In commercial facilities (like gyms or health clubs) the RowErg with tall legs makes athletes more visible because they are sitting up higher.
• The additional seat height may make it easier for some people to get on and off the machine.

Note: The only differences between the RowErg with standard legs and the RowErg with tall legs are the seat height and larger caster wheels on the tall legs. Everything else on the machine is the same. The workout quality is exactly the same.

Not sure which height you want? The longer legs will be available (later this summer) to purchase as a retrofit option for the standard height RowErg, so if you decide later that you want the extra height, no problem! The tall legs can also be swapped out on older Model C and Model D Indoor Rowers.

Where did the name RowErg come from?

A bit of history: When we introduced the very first Concept2 Indoor Rower in 1982, it was called the Concept2 Rowing Ergometer. All of our exercise machines are technically ergometers, or “ergs” for short, because they actually measure the work that you are doing. As the rowing ergometer’s popularity grew among people outside the sport of rowing, we gave it a more general name: The Concept2 Indoor Rower.

With more and more rowing machines on the market, we feel it’s more important than ever for people to understand that the RowErg is an actual ergometer because it will give you reliable, repeatable feedback on your performance. The Performance Monitor is what enables virtual racing, the online ranking, and all of our motivational challenges. The "erg" is what sets Concept2 apart. The name RowErg also aligns nicely with our other two ergometers, the SkiErg and the BikeErg.
